  • What are the advantages of Mucosolvan®?

Mucosolvan® is the most frequently sold cough remedy in the world. It has a strong medical heritage and is known for its efficacy by health professionals around the world. Mucosolvan® Syrup loosens tenacious phlegm in the bronchi, making it easier and less painful to cough up and thereby supporting the healing process. Secondly a beneficial effect is evident as soon as Mucosolvan® Syrup is taken. A smooth, protective film immediately covers the irritated mucous membranes in the throat. This soothes and alleviates the throat irritation.

  • What is Mucosolvan® used for?

Mucosolvan® is used to treat productive coughs. A productive cough is characterized by increased secretion of sticky phlegm and impaired phlegm transport. By liquefying the phlegm and facilitating its expectoration, Mucosolvan® supports the clearance of the respiratory system and thereby helps to overcome infection in the bronchi.

  • How does Mucosolvan® work?

Mucosolvan®'s active ingredient Ambroxol supports the clearance of the respiratory tract. It facilitates expectoration, eases productive coughing and helps in overcoming infections. In detail, Mucosolvan® improves the flow and transport of phlegm by decreasing its viscosity and by activating the movement of the cilia (tiny striking hairs on the mucous tissue that lines the airways), which have the function of transporting the mucus out of airways ("conveyer belt function"). Therefore, Mucosolvan® does not only ease the symptoms but also helps to cure productive cough.

  • Does Mucosolvan® have a fast onset of action?

Mucosolvan® Syrup has a beneficial soothing effect in the throat that is evident as soon as the syrup is taken. A smooth, protective film immediately covers the irritated mucous membranes, which soothes and alleviates throat irritation. Secondly, Mucosolvan® starts to loosen the tenacious mucus in the bronchi making it easier and less painful to cough up.

  • Where can I buy Mucosolvan®?

In many countries, Mucosolvan® is a non-prescription drug and available over-the-counter (OTC). In this case, you can directly go to the pharmacy or chemist to buy Mucosolvan®. In other countries Mucosolvan® has prescription-only status and needs to be prescribed by your doctor.

  • What is Ambroxol?

Ambroxol, the active ingredient in Mucosolvan®, is a proven substance with a long tradition. Over 40 years ago, a forerunner of ambroxol was developed from the drug vasicine. The Asian plant Adhatoda vasica contains vasicine. Vasicine was already well known in the Ayurvedic medicine for its phlegm loosening properties in the bronchi. Following this principle, further developments took place and finally Ambroxol was obtained as a synthetic derivate. It showed improved efficacy in loosening and liquefying congested phlegm in the respiratory tract, thereby improving its clearance function.
Ambroxol was first introduced in the form of Mucosolvan® in 1978 and has proven to be a reliable, trusted expectorant for the treatment of productive cough. Mucosolvan® is one of the leading therapies for cough and is available in many countries around the world.
